In Malaysia, I've witnessed countless individuals—teachers, shop owners, factory workers—who built their lives around the assumption that working hard would secure their future. Today, they queue at public hospitals not out of preference, but necessity, managing conditions like hypertension, diabetes, arthritis, and heart disease with whatever care they can access.
Take a bus ride from Delhi to Agra—sharing the roads with camels, bullock carts, and the beautiful chaos of rural India—and you'll see families making impossible choices: medication or meals, treatment or school fees for grandchildren. These aren't statistics—they're our parents, our neighbors, ourselves in a few decades.
The challenge isn't just about building bigger retirement funds. It's about creating a healthcare system that doesn't force people to choose between health and financial survival.
Our Vision: A Different Path Forward
After years of studying healthcare systems around the world—from Singapore's integrated traditional and modern protocols to community health programs in rural India, and China's evidence-based traditional medicine research—I've seen what works. These systems succeed because they combine rigorous research with accessible care, maintaining world-class standards while serving entire populations.
From this analysis and my personal journey through both heartbreak and healing, A3IM emerged from a simple realization: healthcare transformation requires collaboration, not competition.
Understanding the Systemic Disconnect
The current healthcare landscape, dominated by profit-driven models, has inadvertently created barriers that serve some exceptionally well while leaving many behind. Large pharmaceutical companies develop life-saving treatments that remain financially out of reach for average families. Insurance systems often cover the healthy better than the sick. Hospital networks optimize for revenue rather than community health outcomes.
This isn't necessarily about malicious intent—it's about misaligned incentives in a system that prioritizes short-term profits over long-term population health. My personal experience showed me that breakthrough solutions often exist, but they're not always accessible through conventional channels.
A Personal Journey That Changed Everything
My path to founding A3IM began with heartbreak. In 1997, sitting in a sterile hospital room with my wife, we received devastating news—we had lost our baby for the third time. As a chartered accountant, I deal with historical facts and figures with precision. But medicine doesn't work that way. Each time we lost a pregnancy around sixteen weeks, the doctors were kind but vague: "These things happen," "Miscarriages before twenty weeks are common."
I couldn't accept that answer. This led me down a seven-year journey that consumed my life. I started showing up at medical conferences where I clearly didn't belong—surrounded by doctors, scientists, and researchers. I traveled to American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine conferences in the States, absorbing everything about alternative medical approaches that conventional doctors rarely explored.
What began as a desperate hunt for answers became an obsession. I enrolled in a two-year Diploma in Integrative Medicine at Swinburne University, Australia (2006), became certified in Advanced Hormone Therapy by the International Hormone Society, Belgium (2011), and completed Nutritional and Environmental Medicine Postgraduate Training in India (2018), swapping spreadsheets for hormone and biochemistry charts.
After all these years, I finally had my answer. My wife's miscarriages were likely caused by cervical incompetence due to low progesterone. Once we knew what we were dealing with and caught it early, we could address it. Today, our three sons are all young adults—living proof of our success.
That success made me realize: if my accounting background helped me crack a medical puzzle that changed my family's life, maybe I could help other families facing similar health challenges. This understanding led to the establishment of SumRuy Sdn Bhd as a pioneer in introducing Bio-Identical Hormones with nutrition to enhance longevity across ASEAN countries, and eventually to creating A3IM as a global platform for evidence-based integrative medicine.
